Very sweet and bourbon-like, the nose delivered vanilla fudge, sugar puffs, toffee, spun sugar, honey and Dr Peppers, but complicated itself with cinnamon stick, lemon, perfumed rice and oak. Water nudged it sideways – lemon to orange, cinnamon to clove, toffee to butterscotch and vanilla fudge to chocolate fudge and ice-cream.

That sweetness somersaulted around the palate – cherries in syrup, vanilla cheesecake, caramel sauce, banana toffee, Murray mints – definitely one for a sweet tooth, though clove spice and dry oaky notes provided interest in the finish of what is fundamentally an easy-drinking dram.
