Panellists were like children chasing butterflies of scent – intense orange blossom, old leather satchels, dried heather, cedar wood, plum brandy, raspberry lemonade, raisins, old bourbon, teriyaki steak and golden syrup – there was no stopping their enthusiasm. The palate was equally multi-dimensional – Danish pastries and butter croissants, juicy grass and pipe tobacco, plus ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg spice. The reduced nose was just as inspiring – apple pie with flaky pastry, mango jelly cubes and hot summer nights in Lovers’ Lane after rain (telegraph poles and honeysuckle). The reduced palate was unctuous, with coconut, pineapple, chocolate-coated dark cherries and marshmallows.
